The nuchal scan assesses the risk of having a baby with Downs Syndrome.
At the nuchal scan, the risk is calculated by combining the pregnant woman’s age and the width of the nuchal fold at the back of the baby’s neck, which is seen at the scan. Other markers of Downs syndrome will also be checked, such as whether there is a nasal bone.
Different markers are examined by combining the nuchal scan with a blood test (double test) from the mother, giving a more accurate risk assessment instead of only using the scan.
At Jordemoderhusets Ultrasound Clinic, you may choose a nuchal scan with or without the blood test. If you choose to have the scan and the blood test, the scan is always done first, followed by the blood test on the same day. After the scan, you get a preliminary risk assessment which will be corrected when the blood test result is known.
We cooperate with Region Hovedstaden (Public health service) and their elective laboratory, and you can expect to get your blood test result within five days. We can inform you of the result by appointment with our ultrasound clinic via phone or e-mail only. Regardless, we always send the result via e-mail.
Please note: The scan duration for twin pregnancies is 2×30 minutes. Price: 1700,-
The scan can be done from 11+4 until 13+6 weeks gestation.
If you are a member of the private health insurance company Danmark, you get a 300 kroner reimbursement.
Under each scan type, you can see which weeks are ideal for carrying out various scans. You are always welcome to call us to learn more about the ideal time for a given scan.
We have a beautiful, large scanning room that accommodates up to 6 relatives. Children are, of course, more than welcome. However, very young children (under five years old) often cannot maintain concentration for very long.
Scanning is done using ultrasound waves. The signal is not always as sharp when it has to go through “padding.” We are, of course, interested in ALL the pregnant women who come to us to get the best photos at home. All the clinic’s scanning midwives are experienced, and we do what we can to ensure the best image quality.
It makes no difference to us whether the bladder is full or not.
All our sonographers speak fluent English and are used to explaining the scan images in English.
It is not always that the little one helps to lie in a way so that we can see the gender. If this happens, we will book a new appointment – free of charge.
Our sonographers are all experienced in distinguishing between healthy pregnancies and those with abnormalities. We must refer to further investigations at a hospital if we find something that needs further investigation.
